The big goal of failing more.

The big goal of failing more.

Nightmare Penguin
Actual Penguin with face chewed off. “NIGHTMARE PENGUIN”

So this is my first Blog post. 3/1/2021. I’m attempting to set up my website and everything else. Right now it looks a bit like something that Roo chewed up. Like a penguin with no face. Henceforth known as Nightmare Penguin.

So with this fist post, as funny as I’d like to be, I’m feeling terribly insecure and like chucking the whole thing. “No one is going to read this. It looks like cat shit.” (which can look more interesting especially when coated in litter.)

But alas! I’m trying something new this year. I learned it from a documentary I watched about a young man who has down syndrome and completed an Ironman. A FULL Ironman, that’s a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26.2 mile run (a full marathon). As he trained, every day he tried to be 1% better. 1% better. I mean come on….

So that’s what I’m doing. Each day trying to be 1% better.

I have also set a goal this year to fail more. Yup, big goals! Reach for the stars my Momma always said. Actually I don’t think she ever said that, nor have I ever called her “Momma”. My “Mom” said things like “Unplug it.” when my hand was caught in a mixer. Or, “Well, stop sledding into the tree.” When I was crying because I was continuously sledding into a poplar tree.

Anyway, it’s been my Modus Operandi for far too long; stopping before I even start. With my new goal of failure, if I fail more, I’m DOING SOMETHING! If I fail, I’m learning, I’m gaining humility.

Most important, I’m successfully reaching a goal I have set! “Look Mom I failed!

So, here it is. I’m starting. I’m going to try like hell to keep going, and make it better, make it funny, hopefully make SOMEONE laugh, or think, or tell me to give it up, or something.

If you’d care to follow along on this journey, failing all the way, I’d love to have you.
